The Story of the Charlie Chaplin Cocktail
The Charlie Chaplin cocktail has a history that dates back to the Prohibition era. It was created at New York’s legendary Waldorf-Astoria, a hub for the city’s elite and visiting dignitaries. The cocktail pays homage to Sir Charles Spencer “Charlie” Chaplin, the iconic English slapstick comic actor of the silent film era. Crafted before 1920, made it first appearance in “The Old Waldorf Astoria Bar Book” by Albert Stevens Crockett in 1934.
I like the fact that two liqueurs serve as a split base and that the strong base spirit is missing. It makes a change from the „normal“ sour cocktails. It also uses the rather rare apricot liqueur. That is exciting for me. Give it a try.
