THE HISTORY OF CAMERON’S KICK
Unfortunately, the exact history of its creation cannot be confirmed. However, the Cameron’s Kick first appeared in Harry MacElhone’s „Harry’s ABC of Mixing Cocktails“ from 1919. It later also appeared in „The Savoy Cocktail Book“.
WHICH WHISK(E)Y FOR THE CAMERON’S KICK?
One cocktail, two types of whisk(e)y. Sounds exciting. It is, once you’ve found the right combination. I usually use the combination of The Tyrconnel Single Malt Irish Whiskey and Famous Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky. These are both mild and smooth. Smoky, peated scotches do not belong in the Cameron’s Kick. They would wreck the profile of the drink.
What is Orgeat? Orgeat is an almond syrup. It is usually used in tiki cocktails such as the Fog Cutter. But sometimes it also finds its way into modern cocktails such as the Sloe & Sexy. <- Recommendation!!!
There are various brands that offer an Orgeat. You can also make your own. But if you prefer to buy a ready-made almond syrup, I recommend the organic line from Monin or the Meneau Sirop de Canne Orgeat, which is popular in the bartender scene. This is a little harder to find, but it is the syrup of choice when it comes to orgeat.
A WHISKEY SOUR TWIST
Basically, the Cameron’s Kick is a whiskey sour twist. The whiskey base spirit is split in two and the simple syrup is swapped for Orgeat. So it follows almost the classic formula, but creates a completely different bouquet of flavors.
More classic cocktails?!
