The story of the Bamboo Cocktail
The bamboo cocktail is a classic drink that dates back to the late 19th century. It is often considered as one of the first sherry-based cocktails, and it has a rich and mysterious history.
Some sources claim that the bamboo cocktail was invented by Louis Eppinger, a bartender who worked at the Grand Hotel in Yokohama, Japan, in the 1890s. Eppinger was known for his influence on the Japanese bartending culture, and he may have named the drink after the bamboo plants that grew in the hotel’s garden. However, other sources suggest that the bamboo cocktail was already popular in New York bars before Eppinger arrived in Japan, and that he merely popularized it among his clientele.
The bamboo cocktail is a versatile drink that can be enjoyed as an aperitif or a digestif. It is a drink that has survived the test of time and has inspired many other cocktails.
