The story of the Water Lily Cocktail
The Water Lily was created by Richard Boccato in New York City in 2007 for a friend named Georgette. In the 2016 book Regarding Cocktails by Sascha Petraske, Richard recalls how Georgette sat at the bar and wanted drink something with violet liqueur and gin. Boccato quickly created this bloomy sour. Then, as they searched for a suitable name for the cocktail, they came up with Georgettes middle name – Lilian. This is how the name „Water Lily“ came about.
The Water Lily Cocktail is a drink that is sure to impress with its unique and alluring violet shade. It is one of the few cocktails that features Crème de Violette, a violet liqueur, as one of its main ingredients. The drink is made by combining London Dry Gin, Triple Sec (Cointreau), Crème de Violette and lemon juice in a shaker filled with ice.
If you’re looking to try something new and exciting, the Water Lily Cocktail is definitely worth a try. Its unique flavor profile and stunning appearance are sure to impress.
When choosing a gin, you should stick to a classic, tight London Dry such as Sipsmith London Dry Gin.
