The story of the Hemingway Daiquiri

The Bar El Floridita, nestled in the heart of Havana. With a history spanning over 200 years, this iconic establishment. In 1817, the bar opened its doors as “La Piña de Plata” (The Silver Pineapple) and quickly became a beloved haunt for Havana locals. It was the influx of North American tourists that prompted a name change in 1914. The bar transformed into “El Floridita”. In 1914, a Catalan immigrant named Constantino Ribalaigua Vert stepped behind El Floridita’s bar. Constante’s passion led him to experiment with rum cocktails, and in 1931, he birthed something extraordinary: the frozen Daiquiri.

Ernest Hemingway, the bearded bard with a penchant for adventure, found himself ensnared by the siren call of El Floridita. And so, one evening, Hemingway stepped across the threshold. The bartender greeted him with a nod. “What shall it be, señor?” he asked. Hemingway leaned in, his eyes alight. “A daiquiri,” he declared, “but not as the world knows it.”

And thus, the Hemingway Daiquiri was born.
