THE STORY OF THE Fall Enzoni
The Fall Enzoni cocktail is a delightful twist on the modern classic Enzoni, which was originally created by Vincenzo Errico in 2003. Errico, a former bartender at the legendary Milk & Honey bar in New York City, crafted the Enzoni as a unique blend of a Negroni and a Gin Sour, incorporating muddled green grapes to add a fruity twist to the traditional Campari-based drink. The name “Enzoni” is a playful combination of Errico’s first name, Vincenzo, and the iconic Negroni cocktail.
The Educated Barfly Twist
The creator of this twist is Leandro DiMonriva, better known to many cocktail geeks as “The Educated Barfly”. It is a popular YouTube channel dedicated to educating viewers about the art of mixology, offering tutorials on how to make a wide variety of cocktails, both classic and modern. Leandro’s deep knowledge of cocktails have made “The Educated Barfly“ a go-to resource for anyone who wants to learn more about cocktails. I myself have been following his account for years and regularly browse through his tutorials. Cheers for that Leandro.
One of the standout cocktails featured on “The Educated Barfly“ is the Fall Enzoni. This cocktail is a seasonal twist on the original Enzoni. The Fall Enzoni, however, takes this concept a step further by introducing rye whiskey into the mix, replacing the gin used in the original Enzoni. In addition, also swap the green grapes for red grapes.
The Fall Enzoni is known for its balanced flavor profile, combining the bitterness of Campari with the richness of rye whiskey, the tartness of lemon juice and the sweetness of simple syrup. The addition of muddled red grapes not only enhances the drink’s complexity but also gives it a beautiful, vibrant color. The cocktail is typically garnished with an orange peel flower and a few grapes, making it as visually appealing as it is delicious.
