The history of the Don Lockwood Cocktail
The Don Lockwood Cocktail is named after Gene Kelly’s character in the classic film “Singin’ in the Rain” and was created by Abraham Hawkins of the Dutch Kills bar in New York. It’s a twist on the traditional Old Fashioned, elevating the experience with a split base of bourbon and peaty Scotch whisky.
The cocktail harmoniously combines the vanilla and slight rye spice of bourbon with the malty, woody and smoky notes of Scotch. The addition of maple syrup brings a sweet and caramel-like quality to the drink, while a mix of Angostura and chocolate bitters adds depth and complexity. The result is a drink that balances ruggedness with elegance, making it a modern classic that’s both bold and refined.
